7組競爭者共14人分別空降到溫哥華島的北部，每組的兩個(gè)隊員一共可以選擇10個(gè)生存裝備，并平分裝備。每組中需要選擇一人降落在營(yíng)地，另一人則降落在距離營(yíng)地16km（1 mi）的地方并需要靠指南針徒步到營(yíng)地。每個(gè)人都可以在任何時(shí)間退出游戲，同時(shí)另一名組員也會(huì )自動(dòng)被退出游戲。如果有組員因為受傷而退出，那么與主動(dòng)退出游戲一樣。堅持到最后一組的兩名成員獲得50萬(wàn)美金。

Using color footage he shot himself, Proenneke traces how he came to this remote area, selected a homestead site and built his log cabin completely by himself. The documentary covers his first year in-country, showing his day-to-day activities and the passing of the seasons as he sought to scratch out a living alone in the wilderness.
